Country Chic Dresser Refresh

Ugh this project is one of my all time faves that I've accomplished! My man found this old unloved dresser on a Facebook garage site in our little town. It was missing a drawer and free to a good home. So we grabbed it!

I coated it with cheap white Wal-Mart paint! After multiple coats I sanded down the edges of the dresser and drawers as well. I removed the hardware and handles and painted them with black chalk board spray paint. My boyfriend, Lee, and the handyman he is he added an opened wooden shelf so I could place cute odds and ends inside! I rubbed the edges with black noir wood stain with an old cloth to finish out the "country chic look."

The finished piece was nothing like I ever imagined it came together beautifully! Im so obsessed! #slayhoney

Chevron Wall How To

Hello fellow beauty lovers! I’m sorry I’ve been absent lately! School has been insane, but fun! I have so much I want to cover over this last month of my hectic life! I’m going to break it up over a few posts for y’all <3

Materials------
Paint Colors: New Haven Clay (base), Lustrous Amber (chevron)  both by Valspar
Mini Rollers
Tape
Touch up brushes
Pans
Drop cloth
Old wash cloth (if you're messy like me!)

How we did this, was first painting all of the walls before taping it off. This creates the base layer, since we only used two colors. Please… be sure the base layer of paint is fully dry before you plan on continuing.

Before we started taping lines for the chevron, I needed to make and evenly spaced grid. Luckily enough for me, we had an evenly measured wall (10 feet wide and 8 feet tall) so I needed to measure off grid lines in one foot increments. I started from the top down, since I knew the bottom was going to be covered by trim, just incase I came to a small error with spacing, it would have been covered up on the bottom.

I used pencil, so it could be easily erased – some had to be painted over, which was ok. Chalk might make it easier – but with dogs in the room I wanted to make sure my lines were not going to be brushed away. I measured down from the celling one foot and then connected my marking with a level approximately one yard long to make sure my lines remained level the entire time. Then from that line I did the same thing, measuring a foot down from the line I just created. I continued this processes until I reached the floor.

Then, on each of the horizontal grid lines had just created, I measured from left to right (you can measure right to left if you prefer) one foot at a time with my pencil (chalk can be used as a substitute).  I did this on every level horizontal line I had ever so patiently made in the previous step. Then, where every X was formed, I placed a small 1” square of tape until it looks like I had a useless wall of polka dots.

After all the pretty little polka dots were placed, I then went on an treaded it like a connect the dots puzzle I thoroughly enjoyed in early grade school, until I had a full wall of chevron (see picture). One thing we did not do, but I would recommend, before pressing the tape down securely and firmly, remove the 1” segment of tape from the wall before placing the end of the new line down. This will help ensure your points are … well… pointed.

We used gold for the alternating color. I wanted it to start on the top to look like gold points, and luckily enough for us, due to the evenly spaced wall, the same color ended on the bottom points.

Then, finally, you get to paint your second selected color. And, yes, like grade school all over again, please, do your best to stay inside the lines, thus avoiding have to do as much touch up paint in the end.

After you apply enough coats to cover up the base layer, and enough coats to where you are completely happy with the color. You get to, carefully (this isn’t unwrapping presents on Christmas morning), remove the tape from the walls.

The metallic gold we chose needed a few coats to give it the right sparkle.
We did go back and do tiny touch ups (my boyfriend is a perfectionist) But it came together quickly! And Im head over heels in love with it! He truly spoils me and Im so lucky he allowed me to do this project! love you bubs

Makeup Case

Well, week two was insane! My class started on makeup and airbrushing techniques, and mani and pedi stuff! It's so exciting but so very exhausting! I'm just beginning to start acrylic nails now and I absolutely cannot WAIT to get going!

I'm just now starting to feel confident in my skills and getting more comfortable in class and school. Everyday is different and a growing experience for me. I'm used to being a control freak and wanting to know the next step or start date, and my instructors like to keep it a surprise and leave us guessing. Which in a way has been therapeutic for me in learning to let go a little bit and not always be in control!

I found out in class that Cosmetology students can apply for student discounts on some pretty big name makeup sites! I've applied for a few. Urban Decay, Makeup Forever, and Sigma Brushes, but I haven't heard back from any of the companies thus far.

On top of all the craziness at school, my gracious boyfriend allowed me to get some creative juices out and completely tear apart his room and repaint it! It is going well! We've been up since 9:30 this morning painting and taping everything!! I can't wait to see the finished room. I'll be sure to show y'all before and afters.

Lastly, I was binging on Facebook and found out Urban Decay just released their Alice Through the Looking Glass pallet and lipsticks! I ordered mine!! Did you?!?

Until next time <3

Pedis and Ventis

Goodness! I feel like last week just flew by! It was insane how fast they move you thorough the courses and studies! I've already had two tests! My first test was on skin and waxing I killed it with a 97% woop woop! And just today (Tuesday) I took my second test in Manicures and Pedicures! It definitely has been a whirl wind. But the experience is crazy. I already feel so confident and excited to see what my future holds and I'm only two weeks in.

I honestly was so exhausted physically and mentally this last week. The only way I could set up my schedule with work and school was be in class Tuesday- Friday from 9am to 5, and account for 45 minutes of travel there and back, as well as work weekends at my job! So I've literally been running off of these crazy insane B12 packed vitamins I accidentally borrowed/ stole from my boyfriend, and quad shot venti drinks from the almighty Starbucks (cue heavenly choir in the background).

Today I beat crazy 5pm Cheyenne traffic and stopped by a professional beauty supply store. And let me tell you....OMG... I honestly think my license will be worth all this craziness just to shop at this store. I kid you not it's like if you put your favorite high end hair products on an unbelievable sale! I went insane in the membrane! I bought myself lots of Kenra hairsprays and shampoos. I bought Joico K-Pak treatments, my boyfriend got new shampoos and beard treatments too. I know I rock as a girlfriend. I promise I will give you product updates as I learn and try new things! But for now I must get some shut-eye.

Smock is the New Black

Along with our kits we are given these black smocks to wear. I get we need to protect our clothes and look professional and I all about that. I try to make the best of the smock situation by keeping my outfit underneath fleek AF.

I found this adorable cream sleeveless sweater top and the bottom has the cutest lace detail. I like to layer up because the classrooms are always either Antarctic cold, or sauna sweaty. So I have a loose, flowy sable vest on top. And you can never go wrong with a little sparkly and pearl studded jewelry.

Top: ON SALE Target, Vest: Buckle, Necklace: H&M

For my makeup today I wore L'Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation, Set it with IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Silk HD Anti-Aging Micro-Powder (holy mouthful people), IT Cosmetics Contour Kit, Lashes by Eylure Vegas Nay in the style Grand Glamour Lashes, Anastasia Dipbrow pomade in the color caramel, and NYX Lip Butter in Transylvania.

Hit the Ground Waxing

Well my first day, although very overwhelming, went well. I enjoyed meeting my instructors and receiving my nails, skin, and makeup kit! It was like Christmas Day! You can thank my boyfriend for capturing this candid snapchat of me clawing through my new kits.

I was a little worried how I would pack around all the materials in and out of class. I ended up organizing everything inside a small carryon hard shell suitcase. It works perfectly! Even though I look ridiculous rolling around everything but the wash sink (see what I did there?), but it saves me so much time and hassle!

I was shocked, yet pumped, to hear how quickly you advance and try new things! Today (my second day) I waxed my classmates legs as well as her arm pits! I was honestly shaking at the beginning, not sure if because of excitement or pure terror that I would be ripping out tiny hair recklessly. But once I began it was second nature, and addicting! I even saddled up and had my forearms waxed! First time I've ever done that and it was awesome, my arms are baby butt, just oiled slick now.

Overall I enjoyed today! Now I better get back to studying, I have my first text Friday! Wish me luck <3

Valentines Shenanigans

My boo and I out to Valentines dinner. We didn't actually eat here. We went home after multiple glasses of wine, a huge appetizer, and grabbed a dessert to go. He surprised me with pizza (I'm a pizza addict) specially flown in from Chicago. Who does that?!

First Glimpse

Hello! I'm Casey!! (I'm struggling typing this, my nails are crazy long at the moment).  I wanted to start a blog about my life as a makeup addict, brand spanking new student in cosmetology school (today was my first day), and a fashion junkie.

Here's a little literature about myself. I love sports, not in the I'm a bimbo and thats the only way I can attract guys way. I am a Puppy Mom as well as a Step Puppy Mom to my dog Tebow ( I know, I know) and my boyfriends hound Zelda. Speaking of boyfriends, I met mine in January. He is the most down to earth, patient, man I've ever encountered. He understands, or tries to understand my affinity for everything beauty and fashion, and he spoils me with time and love. I can make a mean cocktail that will knock you off your stool from bartending since the day my ID had fresh, newly legal ink. I fill my free time in stalking my favorite beauty companies on Instagram, and Pinterest. Baking and working out help relax me and wind me down after a crazy day. I love entertaining as many people as possible, and loathe drama.

Now that you know everything but my blood type (actually I don't even know it, I should look into that), I'll move on.

I'm looking to walk y'all through my day to day struggles, lessons, and insider tips as I nervously (at almost 29) start this crazy voyage into cosmetology school.

I look forward to what comes in the next crazy sixteen months of my life!

Until Next Time <3
